Automatically respond to an event like a new hire or an overdue task.
What this does
Creates a rule that automatically takes an action when a specific event happens in your workspace.
Who can do this
Anyone with automation creation/edit permission (tenant admins and owners by default). Note: the sidebar may label this destination "Workflows" — it is the same feature as Settings > Automations.
Steps
Go to Settings > Automations (also reachable as Workflows from the sidebar).
Create a new automation and give it a name.
Choose the trigger — the event that starts it (for example, a new user being created, a task becoming overdue, onboarding starting, or an asset not being returned).
Optionally add a condition to narrow when it fires (for example, only for a specific department).
Choose the action to take (for example, assign an onboarding template, notify a user or admin, assign an asset, or block offboarding).
Save and make sure the automation is turned on (Active).
What happens next
The automation runs automatically whenever its trigger condition is met, taking the configured action without anyone needing to do it manually.
Important notes
An inactive automation is saved but never runs — check that it's turned on if it doesn't seem to be firing.
There is no separate "edit the trigger/action" screen — once created, a rule can only be turned on/off or deleted. To change what a rule does, delete it and create a new one.
See "Automation triggers, conditions, and actions reference" for the complete, exact list — there are only 4 triggers and 5 actions today, each with a specific meaning.
